Yes i think the documentary is an effective because people are not aware about the importance of vultures. People are unaware that this functional bird is decline drastically. There are numerous reports of vulture declines over the past decade.  From Southeast Asia to West Africa, vultures are declining at alarming rates, making them the most threatened functional group of birds. Vultures have always evoked strong emotions from people; from being seen as symbols of divine qualities, clairvoyant whereby they are able to ‘see’ into the future to being misunderstood and called ‘ugly, disease riddled’ birds.   Vultures have for years been persecuted and misunderstood by many, it is for this reason that they are continuously declining at a rapid rate.

 IMPORTANCE OF VULTURES

Vultures play a very important ecological role in clearing the veldt of carcasses. By rapidly consuming remains of dead animals, vultures can prevent these carcasses from acting as host to various diseases that may spread to livestock.  They can also alert farmers to dead stock, in this way potential disease outbreaks can be avoided. Vultures play a vital role in helping landowners get rid of carcasses which are unfit for human consumption and which would normally have been ‘hygienically’ disposed of by burning or burying.

The vulture plays a very important role in protecting the traditional customs of parsis. Each species of vulture is adapted to feed on particular part of dead animals. It is against the Zoroastrian faith to bury, cremate or submerge their dead. Instead after death the body is taken to the Tower of Silence and left there to be consumed by vultures that are birds of prey.

Bio-diversity refers to genes species and ecosystem of a region. It refers to the relationship between the species and their habitats. Species are the distinct units of diversity. Each species plays a unique role in ecosystem. Vultures are one such species which plays a very important role in protecting the bio-diversity.

In this documentary when the moon enveloped in the darkness of clouds, shows that we missed such an important species due to our ignorance and backward thoughts.
